How to Avoid Marketing Overwhelm

So, I’ve gone to a few in-person networking meetings recently where we’ve all been workshopping ideas for someone and, in my opinion, we’re coming up with some absolutely fantastic ideas. But after the one I went to today, I can’t help but feel like we also may have overwhelmed the person asking with too many ideas. I think this is a problem that happens frequently in marketing honestly, even when you’re on your own.

Marketing Scavenger Hunt is written on a beige background that looks like an old pirate map. There is a path that ends in a red X towards the bottom.

Marketing Scavenger Hunt

Remember when you were a kid and you’d have a blast doing scavenger hunts, going from one clue to the next until you find the prize at the end? What if we started thinking about your marketing like a giant grown-up scavenger hunt? Hear me out here…

Let's build your funnel is written in dark blue on a light blue background with faint marketing graphics. A rainbow swirly funnel graphic is at the bottom.

Let’s Build YOUR Funnel

Marketers like to toss the phrase “marketing funnel” around a lot. Basically, it’s just any route that you create that gets your target market from noticing your business to becoming a client. I could go into a long description about the shape of a physical funnel compared to what happens in this metaphorical one, but it’s honestly not that important to what we’re discussing today.

Audit Your Online Presence

Being in as many places as possible online sounds great because, well, the more places you are the more chances you have at being seen by the right people. Is there even a downside to this? Actually yes, if you don’t keep track of it all.

Who is your target audience is written in a deep blue on an orange background of faceless mannequins. There is a user icon with a question mark in the middle and other varying question marks around, all in the same deep blue.

Who Is Your Target Audience?

I talk a lot about your audience or your target audience and how you should focus on them. But I haven’t gone in much detail about who your target audience really is… and isn’t.

Are You Targeting the Right Market?

Sometimes businesses have an excellent product, but they don’t realize who would benefit from it the most. Maybe the product was created with a specific market in mind to solve a pain point of theirs, but they didn’t understand that another market has the exact same pain point.

The background is primarily black with snowflake graphics, a string of lights graphic, and Christmas tree graphics with presents.

Is There Still Time for a Black Friday Sale?

As I’m sure most of you are aware, Black Friday sales are a huge source of income for most businesses. As customers are preparing for their Christmas shopping, they are eager for any deals that can lessen the financial burden of the season. They’re also primed to buy which can make convincing them to get your product that much easier.

Become a walking billboard is written in the center on a light green background of a billboard. There are fun graphics all around in bright shades of blue, green, pink and yellow.

Become a Walking Billboard

In my post about fairs, festivals and expos, I suggested investing in a business T-shirt so that you could be a walking billboard for your business if you end up meandering around, or even just as you’re setting up and tearing down. Let’s go into a little more detail about how you should design that T-shirt (or any kind of shirt or sweatshirt really) and why you may want to invest in it.

Wherefore Art Thou, Brand Voice?

How Shared Personality Traits Shape Marketing

Remember all of those discussions we’ve had about figuring out who your target audience is and figuring out where they spend their time? Well, it’s time to talk about the fact that target audiences also tend to have shared personality traits that affect what types of marketing strategies will work best for them.

How small is too small is written in purple on a green background of a microscopic cell with a magnifying glass graphic and a microscope graphic in neon green. There are purple bacteria graphics floating around the edges.

How Small Is Too Small?

Have you ever tried reading an image post on social media only to find it impossible because the font size is just too small? Because, same. I know just how easy it can be to not fully understand how small the text will look on the finished product while you’re designing it, especially when using a desktop to create an image that will be viewed on a mobile device. So, I’ve written down these handy guidelines to give you a jumping off point when you’re creating your content.

Focus on done not perfect is written in dark teal on a light teal background.

Focus on Done, Not Perfect

It’s easy to want to make sure that every marketing strategy you do is shiny and perfect from the start. I mean why even bother doing anything if you’re not going to do it right the first time, right? Let’s discuss why this isn’t always the best method.

The words correlation and causation are written with a does not equal sign in-between them. They are on a pink background with faint math symbols and equations.

Correlation Does Not Equal Causation

With all of the scientific misinformation going around right now, I thought it would be a good idea to touch base on the fact that just because there is a correlation between two events, it doesn’t mean that one event caused the other.
